August in the city: what to do in Bologna

Even in August, Bologna offers some interesting initiatives for those in the city. Here are some ideas.

Under the Stars of Cinema
One of the most beloved festivals is undoubtedly “Under the Stars of Cinema,” which transforms Piazza Maggiore into a giant outdoor movie theater. Until August 14, cinephiles can enjoy many beautiful films under the starry sky, with a poster celebrating the big screen and masterpieces of cinematography.
There is no shortage of tributes to icons of Italian cinema such as Sandra Milo, Marcello Mastroianni and Massimo Troisi, whose famous film Il postino is the image chosen for the poster.

Appointments not to be missed include:

August 3: 8½ by Federico Fellini
August 4: Peccato che sia una canaglia by Alessandro Blasetti with Mastroianni
August 5: L’ombrellone by Dino Risi
August 6: La dolce vita by Fellini
August 7: Divorzio all’italiana by Pietro Germi
August 8: I compagni by Mario Monicelli
August 9: Matrimonio all’italiana by Vittorio De Sica
Aug. 10: Scipione aka l’africano by Luigi Magni
Aug. 11: Una giornata particolare by Ettore Scola
Aug. 12: I soliti ignoti by Mario Monicelli
Aug. 13: Bologna I Love You by Andrea Mingardi
Aug. 14: La festa popolare Filuzzi in Piazza.

Exhibition: The Places and Words of Enrico Berlinguer
Another unmissable initiative is the exhibition “The Places and Words of Enrico Berlinguer,” which will be open until Aug. 25 at the Civic Archaeological Museum. The exhibition, already on display in Rome, is enriched with a section dedicated to Berlinguer’s strong ties with the militants of Emilia-Romagna. Through five thematic sections, the exhibition traces the salient stages of the Communist leader’s political biography, from his origins in the 1940s to the memorable rallies of the 1980s.
